The Mount Olive Public Library offers a 3D Printing service to any MAIN cardholder in good standing.

Please review the Library’s 3D Printer Policy before submitting a print request, found here.

3D Print request submissions will be paused from January 13, 2026, to January 20, 2026. Any requests submitted before this date will be processed normally.

The online 3D printing request form is available any time here.

The in-person 3D printing request form is available in the Children’s Room. If the project is being submitted the same day, please call 973-691-8686 ext.103 to check availability before arriving.

**If the form is not open to new submissions, that means that there is a long queue that is being worked on. Try checking back in a few days or call the library for more information.**

Frequently Asked Questions

A 3D printer can make three-dimensional objects in plastic using a design submitted to the Library. The objects can be designed manually, using a 3D modeling program like TinkerCAD, or downloaded from the internet, like off of websites like Thingiverse.

Unfortunately, no. The librarians on staff are not 3D design experts and are not qualified to help troubleshoot any design issues or flaws.

Patrons must first fill out the 3D Printing Request form, found either online or at the Library. Those coming in-person should have their file ready on a flash drive.

Before printing, librarians will call, email, or verbally confirm the cost of the print with the patron. Upon approval, the print will be added to the queue. The cost will be added as a charge to your library account.

Patrons will receive a call or an email when their print is finished. The Library will hold onto the prints for one week, at which time they will become discarded.

As projects are added to the printing queue first-come, first-served basis, we cannot guarantee a specific time frame for receiving a print. We work to get prints completed as quickly as possible, and ask patrons to please allow 1-2 weeks for a file to be printed.

We have a Bambu Labs P1S Printer. The object being printed should be no larger than 256 mm x 256mm x 256mm. The file should be submitted as an .stl, or .3mf file type. In addition, we ask that file sizes are no larger than 100mb.

Unless otherwise stated, files are printed as is with our standard settings. If custom settings are required for infill, supports, base style, or more, please note that on the submission form. The librarians do reserve the right to add supports or rafts to the prints if they are certain the prints will fail otherwise.

If supports and/or rafts are required for the print, the patron will be the one in charge of cleaning up the prints and removing the extra support material from the finished print.

In order to recoup material cost and keep up with the cost of machine maintenance, we charge $0.05 a gram for PLA and $0.10 a gram for TPU, with a minimum charge of $1.50.
Patrons are charged the full amount even if they do not pick up their final print.
